This is a pair of California Anatum Peregrines (Falco peregrinus anatum) caught in the act of mating(copulating). Notice how the male sits on his elbows and curls his sharp talons inward to keep from injuring his mate.
They will continue copulating many times a day for a few weeks as the eggs are laid to ensure all the eggs are fertilized.
This is the first time I have had them turn my way as they did the deed so I was pretty happy to get these frames. Hope you like it.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it.

David

David, their size difference is especially obvious here and it's amazing how the male makes sure her back doesn't get clawed.
Great behavior poses and nature story, especially nice to get them on that little elevated part of the scruffy ledge - I appreciate the sheer (literally! as in cliffs) and difficult logistics of being at the right place, time, and angle, really glad you got them turning your way for you, wonderful capture.

Not only a great angle, but it's more interesting to me to note the size difference between them.
