The cold weather brought these beauties in....now that it's much warmer, we're hoping they'll stick around for a while.

Nikon D810; Nikkor 500mm f4 VR; ISO 1000, f7.1; 1/200; SB900 fill flash w/ SB600 on background.

One of my favorite yard birds...I have never flashed them, is that bluish color natural?

Yes, the blueish black back is characteristic of this species.

They are a beautiful species Mike and you have a stunning pose going on here! I wonder if you might have captured this pose horizontally to eliminate the slightly oof and less harmonious lower part of the perch.
