OTHER COMMON NAMES: White-winged Wood Duck
STATUS: Endangered TAXONOMY: Anas scutulata S. Müller, 1842, Java. Currently treated as monotypic. DISTRIBUTION: Few in India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia and Sumatra; formerly more widespread throughout range, probably extinct in Malaysia and on Java. Recently recorded in Bhutan. HABITAT: Tropical forest species, inhabiting undisturbed, secluded pools and marshes in dense, freshwater and peat swampy forest, including partially logged areas, but also sometimes visits rice paddies to feed. In Assam, frequents jungle pools. LOCATION: Nameri National Park, Assam DATE: 28/02/2016, EQUIPMENT: Nikon D750, Nikon 200-500 mm, Tripod, Gimbal head, Hide & Remote. |
