Photo taken at Laguna Seca Bird Photography Ranch in South Texas last week.
Nikon D810, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1250 sec at f/6.3, ISO 640. Female Golden-fronted Woodpecker. Most of the birds are molting this time of the year and are not at their best. This is the first time I've noticed how pronounced the molt is for the Golden-fronted. There was a male with the female, and the male looked worse. It certainly looks like it might be painful. |
