Wood Duck Drake Aix sponsa

This was taken awhile back at a local park in Littleton. I just never got around to posting it, so I thought I would do it now.

This looks like it will be an awsome site! Thanks for putting it together!

Any comments appreciated! Thanks for looking!

A beautiful Wood Duck Drake shot. I might warm it up just a touch but other than that its excellent.

Oh he is a beautiful duck....showing off all his colors. I'd try EJ's suggestion to warm him up just a tad. He's given you a wonderful pose and a great look!! Very nice.

Wonderful pose and nice low angle. I like the reflection too. A little warmth or brightness would be the only change I'd make, but I also like this fine as it is shown.

Brighter light would help this but it would also give you more trouble with contrast, definitely a Wood Duck exposure problem. This one does not have that problem as there is good detail throughout. I really like this one.

Great bird and nice low angle. I agree a bit more brightness would help the shot. Looks like pretty flat light. Great comp!

Sheri, I took the liberty of reposting this lovely image. I hope you like it. In a rather circumscribed manner, I've simulated an additional one EV and added a slight amount of sharpening. The whites are now borderline but the darks are much better.

Sandy did a great job adding a little more light to the image. My thoughts where that the original was a too dark and that it needed more sharpening, things that sandy did admirably.

Lovely duck indeed. What great color patches that would only improve with a slight warming.

Sandy's repost is much better. I think that often we get too hung up on hot whites. In an image such as this wood duck, in this sort of light, bringing out the colors which make up the vast majority(and most interesting parts) of the duck is much more important than worrying if the small amount of white on the bird is a little hot.
Just a little pet peeve of mine :P

Sherri,
Nice drake. I like both your version and Sandy's. Yours looks a bit more realistic to me. Nice anyway thanks for sharing.
