American Avocet Recurvirostra americana

Another recycled image for the motif.

Taken last June at Pawnee Nat'l Grasslands in Briggsdale, Colorado. These avocets didn't mind us sitting at the water's edge watching them eat and...well...

This is a great shot. For those that didn't know how to tell the male from a female Avocet, this is an excellent illustration - the difference in curvature of the bill here is perfectly visible.

Bill,

Certainly a great action shot in good light. Increased flash may seperate the beaks from the BG.

Lovely. Just lovely. Did they do the bill crossing ceremony afterwards?

This is one of my favorites of the Avocet series. You had such a great opportunity and fantastic light. The entire series is the best that I've ever seen. Excellent from start to finish......and you did this without digital....amazing.
