In CT January is too early for nesting but these redtails are already warming up to each other in preparation.

Jim:

I sure hope they were warming up, because we were freezing to death. That was a cold day! And this is a cool shot. You did a nice job of minmizing what was quite a messy tree.

Jim -

I was freezing to death too! That must have been one of the coldest days last winter. Just look at how puffed up the hawks are.
I couldn't believe how close we were able to get to these birds. The light was pretty hard, throwing some black shadows. Good job with a tough situation.
Even though I have sometimes seen red-tails perched close like this, getting it good on film (or in this case pixels) is not easy. This is a very unique situation and image.

Very nice, Jim. My only nit is the shadow from one bird falling on the other.

Jim,

great photo. A little more black in the photo than were used to seeing from you. You handled the sidelighting very well.

Jim,

The lighting and background makes the Hawks even more dramatic looking! Nicely done!

The light is a bit harsh but the commentary is enlightening. Thanx.
