Shot last February at Corkscrew Swamp. I can't tell by markings if male or female but I'm sure this is a female. Just after I pressed the shutter, the male flew in and they mated.

EOS 1v, 500mm IS, tripod, flash, Provia 100F, cropped @ 20% from left and top, USM, and levels.

Robert,
Beautiful photo. Tack sharp, well exposed. Nice catchlight. Some might nit about the fact that it is shot from below yet this is the way most of us see them and I like it just fine.

Robert,
You sure got some great detail in this gal. I would take this in a minute.

The bird is rendered very well. the angle is not a problem. i do, however wish the branch right behind the head was not there or at least not as sharp.

Corkscrew is a pain to shoot in, pretty thick vegetation to contend with!!

Beautiful, swampy pix; very sharp and colorful which I like. Always a problem to keep the distracting elements out of view in this kind of habitat. I would not be a good swamp shooter because I think it requires super-human effort to manage all the variables. I think even more crop to reduce the lightest patch of BG on the top (and some off the side to balance) reduces the tendency to look at the branches behind the head. Flash is excellent and the image pops nicely.

Robert,

Sharp, detailed Hawk! I really like the perch and the way it follows the bird's pose. Great work!

I need to agree with E.J. Still you did a good job getting the detail on the bird giving what the lighting looks like.
