These black-bellied whistling ducks are coming to a man-made lake behind our house, they are pretty weary, it was late in the afternoon and I wanted to make a composition including only three. According to Sean Fitzgerald (a pro nature photographer from Dallas) three subjects in a picture are compositionally better that two or four. It is something cabalistic of the human psi-que. I do not know if he is always right but since I heard that in one of his workshops I have been paying attention and kind of make sense to me.

Way cool, Juan!!!!!, Maybe the threesome represents the Trinity maybe not!!, In either case a lovely image of a wonderful duck!! 8)

On this side of the country, I am sorry to report that Crandon Park has lost three BBWD along with four swans to a pair of American Crocodile who unexpectedly have shown up at the place, ; In such a protected environment Crocs can be devastating to a trusting & protected population of water fowl, Although the Crocs live on the Bay side of Key Biscayne, it is almost impossible for them to show up at the park(Ocean side), but there is a political battle going on regarding the future use of this place, The introduction of these Crocs may be an attempt to sabotage the present status of the park. Unfortunately all the animals will loose in the end, As Crocs move in and the water fowl suffers unsustainable losses , the Crocs who are Federally protected are disappearing as well!! If you want to make a mess of things let man put his hand in it!! The Bat Guano will fly for sure!!!

Juan:

I like the feeling of tension this three-duck composition creates. The middle duck is swimming to the right duck, but seems to be looking out of the corner of his eye back to the other.
Just gret.

Juan,

Very nice. The pano crop is a perfect choice for this composition.

Juan,

This is great. I think an odd number works better than even, but since I'm going to post a pair, then maybe even is better :)

Juan,
IMHO, a little more duck and a little less surroundings would really improve this shot. Exposure looks perfect.

Love the positions of the 3 ducks. Think some of the top should come off to better focus on the ducks and the perfect symmetry of their positions.

Juan.

The placement of the ducks makes this a wonderful composition! I like the way the red bills show up against the blue water! Well done!

 There's always one.
You did well getting all three in focus. And I like the crop.
