Hi Cheryl, I love it. The eye of each bird is incredibly sharp, almost unbelievably so. What was the aperture, f/164?

Best, Artie

LOL. Artie I honestly dont remember the f stop but wuld guess it was f/16 as I know I was trying to get both birds sharp. Of course everybody knows that the Canon 100-400 IS is NOT a sharp lens-right?

Yes, Cheryl, I get a kick out of reading on line that this or that lens is not sharp, or that one person's lens is sharper than another's of that exact model. (Other than with birds flying right at you), I have never used a single Canon lens that did not produce critcally sharp images when I used it correctly... I've made lots of sharp images with the 1-4 and the 1.4X TC, and even with the 2X (especially with flash). I feel that the sharpness in the optics are there, but that the flash (when used as main light) helps eliminate equipment shake...

Cheryl,

Sweet image! Having the birds looking the same direction makes the image for me, gorgeous blue background. Very well done!

Cheryl,

The almost identical postures of the birds makes this composition great, and you did an excellent job on the black feathers!

Nice work with the DOF. The back bird is slightly soft but still very nice. Good decision on the cropping. I like it.
