This was taken a few weeks ago with Greg and Heather in NY. On Saturday Greg waded most of the way across the east pond to try and get shots of this guy. On Sunday Morning (while Greg slept in) he came close to the shore for a few minutes. I got about 10 frames before he moved on and I like this one the best.

Nikon D1x, 600f4 w/TC-14e, 1/200@f8, ISO 250, Sb-80dx w/bb

Enjoy,

Bill

I like everything. I just wish there were a little more speration between the swan's head and the dark line across the top.

Great capture, love the low angle but not the dark shore above his head, a little more separation would have been nice!!!, Nice pose and pretty good detail,a touch more mid-tones for my taste, but nice as is!! Congrats!! 8)

Very nice exposure Bill! I wish the band at the top was not there also. Any chance to redo that area?

Everything always happens when I sleep in  I like this and it's better than anything I got when wading through the muck! The dark area is only a slight distraction.

Thanks for the support, Bill!

Gorgeous bird!!! A slightly higher shooting angle to eliminate the band would have turned this from good to very good.

Not everything. Well, ok, I admit there was that other time that I got an image of this American Kestrel while you were cat napping. You did point to where I should look for it before you turned in though. :)

Bill, I'd be tempted to clone the dark area right out. Great detail on the bird, too bad I didn't have time to shoot that weekend.

Good, windy detail on the feathers. I have mixed feelings about removing the dark band. Unless you have some ultimate purpose for this, I might consider this image a learning tool and watch the BG in the future to try to avoid that. On the other hand (OTOH), a midtones adjustment may bring the colors of the image into another balance that de-emphasizes that contrast in the BG. Just a thought. . :)

Very nice shot! I've seen him from afar, but not this close.

Dark band is only a small distraction. Biggest distraction is that this isn't a native species :)

Lucky for you to catch one milling about - captured with good exposure and detail, too. Well done.
