What I wouldn't give for just a slight turn of the head. Those darned birds never seem to do what I ask them to do. :D

I caught this one on the beach at Padre Island in Corpus Christi, TX just a few miles from my home. He was hunting for his next meal just a short distance from my parked truck.

EOS 1D with 600 and 1.4X TC, AV - 2/3 (ISO 250, f11, 1/800), on tripod very low to the ground.

Thanks for looking. All comments appreciated.

Love that little strut step and the whites are exposed perfectly. Good one!

Bruce,

I like the wing stretch. The BG color compliments the bird. Nice whites!

Very cool shot! The only thing that could improve this would be if the wings were in the fully extended position.

Bruce, you are just tearing it up down there. This is awesome. I would have not nit the lack of headturn as the rest of the action is too great to even notice.

With the raised wings and foot I think asking for a head turn may be pushing it. :)

This is very nice. No nits from me!!

Excellent exposure and pose, Bruce!
Corpus Christi, TX seems to offer a lot of shorebird shooting opportunities. What's the best time of the year to be there?

Bruce,

Excellent work. The raised wings are very nice and the exposure of the white feathers looks perfect.

GREAt image. I love the overall composition as the shadow adds to this image.

Cool shot, Bruce. Exposure right on. Watched these critters feed in Florida a couple years ago. They are very fast and even faster to devour the droppings of other birds. Must have been nutritious as I never saw them strike out on their own.

Beautiful shot, Bruce. Great exposure. Love that seamless brown FG and BG. The shadow adds to the mood of the image.
