(Adult Bald Eagle) Homer, Alaska

This was taken in the afternoon during one of the sunny days. I was shooting with the fast camera but with the little hand held lens. (OK, so everything is relative here.) The wind was up and once the eagles noticed food, they would use the wind to soar over our position waiting for an opportunity to swoop down. At one point, I was shooting vertical since they were that close and I kept cutting of both wings. :D

Handheld Nikon D1H, 300mm F4.0 AFS, ISO 200, Aperture Priority, 1/750 @ F5.6. Cropped About 10%.

Really nice! I am very envious of all your eagle pictures and just hope I can get to Alaska while Jean is still taking care of her charges. Thanks

This is my favorite of the images yhou have posted on NS so far. I like the classical diagonal composition.

Tony,

Very sweet! Sharp as a tack and killer detail in the highlights and shadows. Very nice!

Tony, will you stop it. :D

Great photo. I'm impressed with how much good material you got with your trip up there. You must have went all out.

Well. Actually. I gotta say I love digital! From the image numbers I didn't delete I calculated I shot about...

2136 frames on the D100 and 3571 frames on the D1H. That's roughly 5707 images or about 159 rolls of 36 exposure film.

I can't wait until the D2H comes out and I can really shoot quick! :!:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, another eagle shot. :)

Also happens to be my favorite of your eagles so far and that's saying an awful lot! Your shots convinced me to head to Homer this year (with Chas, sorry to miss you). Hope I have half as much success - but take just as many photos!

Rich
