A falconers bird just after a successful hunt. You can still see the remnants of the meal around his beak. This is the white phase of the gyrfalcon, in immature plumage.

Canon 1D, 100-400 IS @400. ISO 400, f5.6, 1/1000 sec, BB flash @-2

Love how you got both eyes - that stare is intense. I wish for slightly more DOF, perhaps f8. Nice capture.

I agree that getting both eyes was a big plus, but you might consider removing the second catchlight in the right eye. The whites seem a little pink but of course that could be my monitor or this bird was a REALLY messy eater :D. I like the green BG alot too.

Rob,
This is one intense bird! By the way, for captioning you might want to label as a white morph and not phase. (phases change).

Neil, I didn't even notice the second catch light, thanks for the observation. It is not pink on my monitor, looks just the way I captured it.

Nice shot Rob, very intense. I think a napkin would be appropriate. Great exposure. :D

Very powerful image Rob. It really shows the intensity of these wonderful raptors!
