Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina)
Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, FL, on 30 May 2003

Of the ducks I have seen personally the Red-crested Pochard is probably my favorite species. I took about a half-dozen shots of this gorgeous creature. This particular image was hiding in my files; it has not been posted before.

Thanks for looking. Comments, critiques, and reposts are welcome.

I love these birds too Sandy, they are so handsome.

I drooled over your other shot of this guy (I am presuming this is the same duck?) and this is another stunning shot, showing his personality as well as his superb plumage.

Just Gorgeous!!!!

These are incredibly beautiful ducks. You have created a great portrait of this one. I love the framing of this.

Excellent. :)

Sandy,

Excellent work. The colors on the duck look good and I like the varying green colors in the background. I also like the composition with just the right amount of room above the head and in front of the bill.

A very nice photo of one of the prettier ducks around. Red-crested Pochards are very beautiful - some of them can be truly spectacular. He looks like he is starting his molt from the eye outward. These guys peak in about February.

A beautiful duck I have yet to see or photograph. The eye is mesmerizing and the greenery really sets off the bill.

What detail! Love those reds. Position of the grassy BG color change is nice too - isn't too abrupt or intersecting the birds eyeline.
