Just experimenting and came up with this shot. I like it, but then I like things a little different! I would be interested to hear your opinions on whether this is a 'yes' or a 'NO' in your book.

All comments and critiques are always welcome and appreciated, and thanks for looking.

Carol,

It forces us to guess what it is but the lack of an eye makes it hard to find some point of reference.

Carol,

This is interesting and different. I usually like to see the eye, but I think seeing it here would detract from what you are trying to do. Maybe it could be improved if the light source was a little lower to more evenly illuminate the chin area. Good experiment.

Carol,

I like this too but I'm like you and like things a little different. My only real nit about this as presented is how much brighter the light is on the tongue area. If the brightness matched the rest of the rim-lighting that would improve the image. Thankfully, that's an easy fix with PS.

If it is possible to go back to where you took this maybe taking a white reflector to reflect some light on the shadow side would bring out the eye just enough to make it distinguishable as Ken mentioned.

This is really cool. I like high contrast images like this. :)

Maybe with a bit of flash on -2.3 to -3.0 Just enough to let us see the eye. Not enough to change the mood. Only enough to get some detail in the darkest areas.

Carol,

You should be commended for going out side the box. I like the image, although I wish the light on the lower bill was as soft as the rest of the light. Cool shot.

Almost, Carol. Just a hair away. I'd like to see a hint of the eye and the lower beak burned a bit. Great experimentation.

I think Sandy nailed it - its a great attempt at something different that would really be cool with a little clue as to where the eye is.

Make that another vote for Sandy's suggestion for burning the lower beak. I don't need an eye, however. I'd definitely try this again.

Carol,

Way to experiment. My first reaction was that the bird was making some type of confession or statement and the darkness was so the viwer would not recognize the speaker!
