American Avocet Recurvirostra americana

I've posted this one elsewhere but I couldn't resist posting it for the motif.

Taken in June of 2002 at the local park. This male Avocet was teaching his three or four week old chicks how to forage in the water for food. Sheri and I were accompanied by three other photographers that day. We were all sitting along the water's edge and the whole family (mom, dad, and three chicks) came within just a few feet of us.

F100, 300/4 AF-S, TC-20EII, Tripod and ballhead, Sensia 100
Aperture priority @ f8, Matrix @ 0, SS unrecorded.

PS: Full Frame.

Comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking. :)

Great shot Bill. It would be really nice to get that close. I'm still trying to get one bigger than the focusing spot in the viewfinder.

Bill,

I really like the lighting, the great detail and lovely background. The water drop at the tip of the bill is very nice too! Beautiful image!

Such a sweet little face and gentle eye these birds have Bill, and you have captured that to perfection here.

Gorgeous image!

Bill

You have some of the best Avocet images that I've ever seen. This one is no exception. An excellent headshot of a beautiful bird.....one I've been shut out on seeing every time there's been one reported. Excellent shot!!

Bill,

This is great. I like the water drop and the way the bill runs diagonally through the frame.

Great closeup. That is always the best time to get closer pictures of Avocets and Stilts when the young are around. Great job taking advantage of the situation.

Hi Bill,
Cool shot! That little drop of dihydrogen monoxide is the icing on the cake.

The angle and lighting on this are just lovely. It's so soft it makes me want to touch the bird.
