This is another transplant that has found its way to Southern California. Unlike the Orange Bishop, like the one Richard posted this week and comes from Africa, this one is from southeast Asia. It also is doing very well, and is becoming quite common. I shot this bird about a year ago in the vicinity of the Whittier Narrows Nature Center. Canon D30, 100-400mm at 400, F5.6 at 1/500. Cropped approximately 30 %, blurred some distracting elements in the background.

I was just looking at these in the pet shop the other day. This is a very sweet image. The comp is great. The pose is great and the BG is awesome. It could use a little sharpening, especially in the head.

Killer shot Jim.

Jim, Nice shot of this adorable species. We've had this mannikin here in Miami, but not very often. Love its alert position!!

Another wonderful image of a beautiful bird.
I was at Whittier Narrows this morning working the Orange Bishop(he's still there), and I got one shot of the yellow-crowned bishop. It's not a great image, but it's the only one that I have.

Great exposure and detail on the bird. I especially like the diagonal perch, this all works together very well.

This really shows the feather pattern on the belly. The head turn is very nice and I like the diagonal perch. Neat Image.

Jim,
Nice shot of an interesting bird. I sure hope that they don't become a problem as other "introduced" species have. A winter plumage starling is actually quite beautiful but I sure wish we didn't have them

You have captured it really well! Good luck is also needed to get background with suitable color as this.

Cool looking bird and a nice composition. Looks just a bit soft but a little more USM would show how sharp it really is. Nice shot!
