These suckers are *huge*. They weigh up to 18kg (40 pounds), and actually fly. What a beast they are. Funny to watch them walk around, looking for something to eat.

Hi Andy, Thanks again for your PhotoShop help yesterday; it was great chatting. I like the pic, even the few grasses at the bottom of the frame. Ideally, the bird's head would be facing a bit more towards the film plane. These guys are the heaviest flighted birds in the world... They looked to me as big as an adult warthog! Best, Artie

Andy,

Very nice shot. Love the head tilt. nice BG. A little off the top would make it stronger IMHO.

Off to grab dinner, but I will post some more from the series in this thread later this evening or tomorrow. Thanks for the comments, all. And yes, Artie, is was good speaking with you. I think I have another shot of this guy facing a little more towards the camera.

Nice one, Andy.

I'd like to see a bit off the top, too.

Very cool bird. Good exposure and background. There is a little too much empty space above the head.

Wow they are one big bustard! I remember shooting the little black bellied bustards in Kenya. Cool birds with quite a loud call.
I agree with EJ on cropping a bit from the top on this. Nice shot.

What a strange looking bird. The pose is very cute. I haven't ever seen or heard of a Kori Bustard. Thanks for showing me something new. :)

Ok. Thank you for all of the posts, everybody. Some great comments in there, and taken to heart.

Here is another shot that might work better.

Hi Andy,

If I hadn't seen the first one, the second is great. Personally I'd like the pose of the first one with the head of the second, if that makes any sense at all this early in the morning :)

Interesting pose on the first bird. I like it. A little off the top seems to help though as mentioned before. Thanks for sharing the 'big bird' with us.

Hi Andy---I like the design of the first and would like to see the feathers brought out even more in curves, if possible. Looking closely, there are intriguing layers in this image that would make an already interesting shot moreso.
