(Snowy Egret) Sanibel Island, Florida

Taken on the pier. I had a bit too much focal length so I stopped down a bit and went for a head shot. This is what I ended up with.

Handheld Nikon D1H, 300mm AFS, TC-14EII, ISO 200, Manual, 1/800 @ F8. Full Height and cropped 5:4 from the left.

Tony,

This is very nice. I would like to see a bit more of the head or neck. Love that eyeball.

Hi Tony, This one is sharp, the exposure is perfect, and it is a pretty good looking bird. I like it. An alternative would be to crop it just a bit from the top so that the top of the bird's head comes right out of the upper right-hand corner. Best, Artie

I with Alan, I would like to see more of the head and neck. Great exposure and a perfect bird.

Oh, can you get close to the Snowys at the Sanibel Pier? Nice and sharp. I like Artie's suggestion of the diagonal starting from the very corner, and I'm with Alan that I'd like to see a bit more of the bird. Great creative thinking here.

Tony, that popping eyeball is great, and it looks like you made good use of the focal length.

This is cool. Heather, you can get close enough to shoot the eyeball with a macro lens at Sanibel Fishing Pier. Cropping off the top to have the bird come out of the corner makes it even cooler to me.

I was considering going back to 3:2 but the bill is very close to the edge and slightly low at this point. I still think I like the 5:4 best. Here's the update:

That eye is intense! Great head shot. The diagonal works really well. This must be right about at min focus too. Well done.

Unusual, albeit interesting composition. I love that bulging eye.
Congrats on your creative thinking. :)
