D30, Sigma 400 f/5.6 APO Macro HSM @ f/5.6, 1/60, ISO 200, -1/3, Flash @-2

This was taken at the beginning of the year on the day I received my D30. While it's just a regular old gull (I still think it's pretty!) I love this shot because it showed me the endless possibilities of working with a Digital SLR. All comments and suggestion for improvements are greatly appreciated. I have posted this elsewhere recently but thought it fit this Motif nicely. :) Thanks for looking!

The warm light and the eye ring bring this above a "feathered rat" portrait - very well done. It's fun to see common bird (for me, anyway) portrayed with such feeling.

What makes this one "Special" to me is the fact that you have a very nicely plumaged specimen. The clean, soft feathers really give this image its tone. The eye pops nicely too!

Good stuff. :)

Laura:

I was just remarking to some birding friends the other day how beautiful Ring Bills are, and this image shows them to best advantage. Radiant!

This is a beautiful portrait. I like gulls, myself, and find several types to be quite extraordinary.

This image is very well done, soft lighting, great background, nice plumage on the bird. Composition is really good, too, well done!

erfect exposure, detail and color. I might be tempted to make the left side of the frame a bit tighter.

Nice practice. I wonder how good they'll get when you not practicing because this is right on.

Very well done! The only thing that would improve this is a little bit of a head turn toward the camera. Love this shot.
