This image required long hours in a blind, but was it ever worth it!
Although, I must admit a good friend did most of the hard work scouting out, and placing the blind days before I ever arrived.

Chas,

Real nice image. I'd be quickly spoiled with that sort of arrangement.

The image is beautiful and technically perfect, but I believe I would rather see the entire bird.
Did you made any shots without the TC?

Chas,
Next time you go there call me up. Fantastic photo of a bird high on my list of which I have no images. I am lusting in my heart after this one!

I especially like the composition here. The head seems to be angled just perfectly and, to me, there is exactly enough room for the Kingfisher to look into. It may be that I need new glasses but the tip of the bill looks ever so slightly soft to me. I also love that the background matches the bird's neutral plumage so well. Your posts are always a pleasure to view! :)

It's an excellent shot that you aren't likely to ever get with anything less than a blind.

Your series of BKFs from this blind is great, and this is no exception. I don't see aperture and shutter speed - just wondering if you could have gotten enough DOF to get the tip of the bill in sharp focus.

Chas:

I have put in a wee bit of time working on these characters myself, and never did I get anything even approaching this.

Shooting from this distance, and using flash, you must be limited to one shot at a time. Can't imagine one of these guys sitting still for the next shot. I'd guess there's a fair amount of down time between photo ops.

Amazing.

Getting this close to one of these is a feat in itself. The close portrait here is pretty flawless.
Did Mr B King inspire the hairdo of Mr Don King?

Have a great trip Chas!
