I attempted to photograph Sanderlings at a mud flat for two days with little result as they were always out of range. Another photographer suggested they were more approachable on the public beach on the shore of Lake Ontario where I live. They were indeed as this one came closer than I could focus. The white BG at the top is the surf.

Love this tender/muddy footed Sanderling looking at you, great exposure and very nice detail, a little on the cool side , a little shift on the hue side should do nicely!!! Congrats!!! 8)

You caught this beautiful bird very nicely! About the only nit for me is that it is too centered. Panning slightly left would move the bird to the right in the image and open up a little more space in front of it. Everything else is just wonderful!

Great capture! I wish we had more shore birds here in Iowa, I'm sure it would help if we had some shore. :o(

Ken, I think this rocks. I would not put this bird more right in this photo as that would not allow the right pebble to balance the photo. If that pebble was not there, then I would crop from the right. I love the overall light tones. If that raised foot was just a tad sharper. Now, that's being picky. :)

Perfect exposure, great detail and a very nice look back into the camera makes this a successful image in my eye...

Nice low angle and I like the rocks a lot. The bird's pose is great.

I love the raised foot in this one as well as the look he's giving you. These guys aren't easy to shoot even when they are close.....they are a neverending ball of energy. You did very well with this one.

Ken,

Wonderful image. Tip toeing thru the rocks is most refreshing. The raised foot is probably sharp but covered with mud.

The bird itself is so very nice and I love the pebbles. I'd also like to see Alex's suggested hue adjustment. The little leg lift adds a lot too!

Very nice image of the bird itself. It is interesting to see a "catchlight" on each of the wet stones. Great composition.

Raised foot and the shiny rocks make the shot. Love the way it's stepping over the single off-color pebble. Composition as it stands works by me.

This really is very nice. The pebbles are an integral part of the composition, which by the way, is excellent. I wouldn't change a thing. :)

I was just thinking about Sanderlings today and wondering when I will ever get a shot of one that I like - they just move so fast! This is really cool, I love the stones on the shore.
