This is a grey phase gyrfalcon in absolutely beautiful and stunning plumage. I particularly like the water droplets which were used to keep the bird from overheating on a hot summer day. The background was a fence.

A beautiful animal. Like another captive bird image I commented on yesterday, in a controlled situation like this, it is often possible to eliminate the shadows by changing the direction that you are shooting from.

Rob, It looks like your light was much harsher than what I had. These guys are certainly neat birds.

Beautiful bird, and I agree the water drops are really nice! Light/shadows are a bit harsh but not a huge deal. It's hard to tell that's a fence background, it's out of focus enough. Cool shot!

Even with the angle of the light, this is very nice. Cool shot. :)

Rob,

Excellent work. The exposure looks very good. Less shadow would make it even better.

Spectacular specimen. I like the water drops too. This is a nice image even with most of the face in shade. I do wonder what his "other profile" would have been like.

This is a very nice photo, Rob. I love the subject and the water drops add another dimension.

Was this taken at a HawkQuest exibition? If so, it is extremely nice given their hours of display and other logistics that make photography difficult.
