White Ibis
Merritt Island, Florida

During a May trip to Florida Greg and I visited Merritt Island which I liked a lot. We didn't get to spend nearly enough time there, but I did get a few shots going around the loop.

I don't have access to my settings right now, but this was taken in early morning, digital capture with the Canon 1D and likely the Canon 500mm f/4 with 1.4x teleconverter on a beanbag out the car window. I would wish for cleaner water and a lower shooting angle.

Comments appreciated!

Heather,

I agree with your wishes but still... The light and the beautiful subject more than make up for those two things. These birds are so much fun to photograph.

Very well done!!

Beautiful, Heather. On a good day, the early morning light at Merritt Island NWR is gorgeous. Getting low is nearly impossible around the Black Point Wildlife Drive.

While as you mentioned a lower angle would have been nice, it's not critical. The water looks fine and you have some very nice light which I like because it's not overly sweet. TBH...sometimes the light is so yellow that it looks like the birds are suffering from jaundice :) . The whites are exposed very well too.

Angle isn't an issue for me here - bird is tall enough to make that not a problem.

Light is very lovely indeed. Great color in the bill.

Heather,

Great light. The bill color is great as is the drop on the tip. I have on a number of occasions parked my car off to one side and slithered out the passenger door and shot low next to the car. On heavily trafficked days this is tough to do.

Heather, This water is clean considering how much they dig around in it. I like the light and exposure on the bird. The water drop tops it off.

Almost missed this one. Love the way the light on the body gives subtle tones there like those in the beak. Angle's not a problem for me either - but a beanbag out the truck window would really have put you up a ways!

No complaints from me about the angle. Cool bird, sharp and well composed.
