Having never seen a Tattle before I had some difficulty at first with the ID on this non breeding Tattler. However, the remnant of barring on the breast and its habit of dipping its tailfeathers as it "wandered" along, clinched it.

The photo was taken on a very dreary overcast morning at the "green spot" in the La Jolla tide pools.

Nice placement in the frame and like the use of negative space frame right. It's a shame you couldn't get a catchlight and I might try to increase the contrast just a bit.

Neil,
Very nice capture. In particular I like the variable green background and the tiny water droplets. And I think I do see a bit of a catchlight. A second shot with you prone sliding around on the rocks with a lower perspective would also be interesting.

Wow, love the greenery the bird is standing on and the out of focus greenery in the background. The bird is in a nice pose for you here, too, and very sharp. I see a catchlight, myself. Great shot!

Neil, the bird and Bg are excellent. On my screen a catchlight is seen clearly. With the bill pointing to the left side of the frame, I'd prefer less space on the right side.

The background is great and so is the mossy ground he is on. I would have to agree with Sandy on the composition.

Nice, soft light. I love the pose. I agree that a little off the right-hand side would strengthen the comp. Very nice as is too. :)

Very well done! Great colors and sharpness. The catchlight is clear and the little water drop on it's head adds to the image.

Neil,

Great use of flash. Neat BG. A shorebird I have yet to photograph. Where are the tide pools in relation to the cliffs?

Jim,

The tide pool area is less than a mile south of the cliffs.

Neil, I like the posture of the bird, especially with one raised foot. The green background really sets it off nicely.

Outstanding WT Neil. I'm quite jealous of this one. An uncommon bird in the algae bowl in some fantastic light. Sweeeeet.
