Harvey,

The detail is amazing, the BG is nice and the preening puts it over the top. My only wish is that he had his eye opened.

Harvey,

IMO, this is one of your best!! I love the preening pose and the exposure and detail are dead-on.

For my taste, I like the eye being closed because, to me, that indicates a feeling of comfort and security. That, then is transfered to the viewer as a peaceful feeling.

I like this a lot!!

Very nice. I like the curves and straight lines of the neck head and bill and I too like the closed eye.

Nice! I also like the curves in this and the blue sky background. The closed eye works fine for me.

Fine shot, Harvey. Excellent detail and BG. I would have preferred an open eye, especially on a Cormorant.

Very very nice - the only thing that would make this even better would be to see the jewel eye.

Hi Harvey. I'm with the others who really like the curves of this shot. I think this very nice and would be a bit improved with an open eye as it would compliment the beautiful BG.

Harvey,
Agree with all of the above comments. It is a very fine photo. Was that the color of the sky? Polarizer?

The sky color was darkened by using spot metering off the black on the bird at -2/3. I've found with the 1D this works all the time. Very little was done here with image editing. This is pretty much out of the camera except for a small crop and some very mild USM.

The curves, colors and detail all come together for a beautiful image. I would wish for an open eye but when they preen, it's pretty hard to get. Well done.

Certainly one of your best Harvey. I feel like I could reach out and touch this bird it's so well presented. Sharp as sharp can be and a very interesting preening pose.
