Hello Avian NatureScapers...

Early this spring there wasn't much going on one Saturday afternoon so I went over to a little park about a mile from my house and sat down on the edge and observed a group of CG's. I made a personal challenge to try to make a CG picture that was different. Richards recent post made me think of this. Such a common species, most people think of them as pests, you know the drill..

So as the sun was getting low, I tried to get head and neck shots with colored water. I got some drinking shots, some slurping shots etc. I liked the water in this one..

Thanks for looking and any comments or suggestions

A very unique shot of a common subject. The light and color of the water is outstanding.

It's not easy to come up with something different for this species but you have succeeded. What a sweet shot! Wouldn't change a pixel.

The color of the water is beautiful, and the merge from the beak and the water, unique 8)
Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!

This is very nice. No doubt about it, but I kinda feel the base of the neck draws my attention out of the frame. I would probably have shifted the face right to remove the base of the neck and put a little more room in front of the bill. Of course this is probably better than anything in my files...

In my view they might be numerous but in no way a common bird, the capture is also very uncommon and wonderful at that, you get an A for creativity!!! Congrats!!! 8) 8) 8)

Dennis,

I love the copper tones in the water. The framing is perfect for the pose, IMHO. :)

Dennis, beautiful image, beautiful colors. The curve of the neck is the most important compositional feature. The eye isn't bad either.

Dennis,
You truly have your own very innovative style. I'd like to shoot with you someday just to see if your thought processes might rub off on me. Love the colors as well as the uniqueness of the subject composition.
