A well done shot, Joseph. Perhaps another angle could have avoided the strong shadow under the beak. I don't think flash would have helped very much unless it were flash as main light.

Its an excellent shot. Sandy beat me to it - in a controlled situation like this, getting an angle that doesn't throw a shadow is often possible.

Like the pose and the stare. Shadow of the beak doesn't bother me, but I would like his head tilted up just a bit to remove the shadow in the eye.

Joseph,

I like this closeup, and the tan and gray patterns it shows! Very nice work!

I love these hawk shots. This one is great. I probably wouldn't have thought about the shadow if I had shot this. Guess I've learned another lesson.

Great pose. I love the intense stare. The shadow isn't overly bothersome to me. Very nice!

Nice pose and as mentioned, I don't think the flash would have helped with that shadow but the shadow does not really distract from a worthy image.

The shadow on the eye might have been lessened with a flash. (I needed to say something different than Greg and Sandy even if they do know more than me. :) ) Wonderful image. :D

Nice to see this species posted. I don't remember seeing this species here and I'm sure I've never seen a closeup portrait of one. Lot's of good lines and detail, but the shadow of the beak bothers me a bit. Is there a blue cast on this or is it just me?
