(Juvenile Mute Swan) CRSP , New York

I got this while a family group of Mute Swans was checking out all the photographers, probably looking for free handouts, which they didn't get. This was taken last year in October before I went on the last few workshops and I learned that close ups might require stopping down a bit. I'm also not positive why I was shooting ISO 400 but I've recently gotten better at using Capture (and Capture has improved) and I didn't have any issues with the ISO. In fact, I can usually go up to ISO 800 as long as the image is exposed right before I have problems with the noise.

This is a second in my series off too tight head shots for the Motif. :D

Oh, and this is my 900th post. I'm only 720 behind E.J. right now. I might make 1000 before he makes 2000. :D

Tripod mounted Nikon D1H, 500mm AFS, TC-14EII, ISO 400, Manual, 1/3200 @ F5.6. Full Frame.

All technicals are right on. Fine detail.I'd just like a bit more room in front and on top.

Not too tight for me, Tony. A lovely head shot. f16 at 1/800 probably would have gotten all parts of the bird in focus. I've noticed how you've become a posting machine, but if push comes to shove, I still will have to put my money on EJ. He's awesome.

Anthony,

Good sharpness throughout, but the eye detail is lacking.

LOL - who's counting - I didn't even realize it :) This is a cool shot. If you print it, I'd consider primping that one out of place feather :)

Very nice. I could take a little more room to the right but it also works as it stands.

Nice shot Tony. I like how you can see right through the nose. :)

That was my thought when I first opened it, except that it seems to have a bit of a nosebleed? Nice shot!

Tony,

This type of shot brings out the details, which I like to see! Great work!

A nice shot but a little too tight for me. I am way behind but I have lots of excuses.

Great detail, perhaps a bit too tight in the frame for my tastes, but appreciated nonetheless.

I like to see the detail of the head with these kinds of shots. The detail here is very nice. I'd comment on the tightness of this but I don't have much experience with this type of shot.

Tony,

Nice work. There is alot of great detail here. I like being able to see the yellow eye ring.

Intimate and sharp as a tack. A little too tight for me but the detail and bg are well done.
