This was taken in Nome. While all of us were out shopping for food, I struck up a conversation with a lady who had a young child. When asked what I was doing there, I replied that I was part of a photo group taking images of birds. She replied her husband was a falconer. Introducing her to Art, he proceeded to make the arrangements to photograph this silver gyrfalcon. The falcon was tethered to a stand. We shot for about 15 minutes til the gulls and smaller birds started squawking.

Wonderful head shot of a bird I have only seen in pictures!!!
In Denali at Polychrome pass there is a Gyrfalcon who nests right below the road, my friends on this trip are raptor researchers, they went down to the nesting area (nesting had been over for months), they also found regurgitated pellets near his perch, the contents mostly comprised of ground squirrels, Also they found the nest of a Golden Eagle as well, Very surprise that these two nested so close to each other!!
Excellent capture and lovely detail!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Wow, what a gorgeous bird! Don't think I've ever studied a portrait of one before, and I've sure never seen one in person. This is a very nice image with a nicely undistracting BG.

Killer bird and great shot. I love the unique bill. I think cropping a tiny off the top would make it stronger.

Nothing like finding a great opportunity and taking full advantage of it. This is great...the detail, colors, and BG are exceptional. Great shot.
