I'm not much of a bird photographer, but I like this photo, and thought I would post it here for your comments. It was taken with an EOS 1D and 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L lens.

Cliff, welcome to NSN. You're probably the only one to not know that I am a fan of clipped-wing shots. The face and beak are reasonably sharp. The whites on the leading edges of the wings are hot, and the underwings are dark. Just the ideal spot for a negative-style contrast mask. Try it; you might like it.

Unlike Sandy, I am not the big fan of clipped-wing shots, but this one seems to work. A little flash under the wings would've made this even better. I love the color of the bill and that blue sky. Nice.

I am like Wayne! and like full wing shots better. It is a nice image though with good colours and sharpness.

I don not mind the clipped wings in this one. I like it a lot. Some fill flash to reduce the shadows under the wings would have been nice but this is great anyway.

Great shot!

Welcome aboard. Not a bad image for a non-bird photographer. i might try to dodge the undersides of the wings a bit to lighten them up and bring out some detail.

Looks to me like it was taken at the best time of the day but the image is still well composed. Maybe using a shadow reduction routine could bring out some of the detail that's lost in the shadows.
Of course, a flash at the time the image was taken would have helped too.
