Juvenile Crested Caracara, St,\. Cloud, Fl

Many thanks to EJ, Greg and Heather for getting this site up.

Taken in the past 6 weeks. I arrived at their favorite perch before dawn and waited til the sun got above the ground cloud cover. Fearing that he might fly off I did not put on a teleconver. He proceeded to pluck this feather and play with it.

10D, 600IS, no flash, ISO 200.

Hope you enjoy.

Jim

Great to see you here, Jim. I like the image and particularly the composition. With the bright sky, however, having the bird larger in the frame might have worked well. I also would love to have seen what reducing ambient by a stop or two and using flash as main would have done.

It's great to feel at home again.

Alex, I certainly have missed your witty remarks.

Sandy, I agree that flash might have been more useful here, but the previous time just as soon as I set up with flash and teleconverters and got into position both adults and the juvie flew off before I got any images. One of the adults later came back. My next post will be a portait with stacked converters of this adult.

Hi Jim, Wonderful to see you again! Interesting that this juvenile is playing with a feather!! I did that as a child, too. I'll look forward to your adult. :D

I really like the composition of this. The "C" curve created by the bird and tree, the way the unraveled feather is repeated by the nest material in the tree, etc.

The light is wonderful as well. You have a real winner here Jim. :)

So glad to see you here. This is a nice shot....you have done well with this family. Reminds me of freshman girl twirling her hair during first period.

Bird and perch really do make a lovely curve through the frame. Look forward to seeing the adult if it's anything like this!

Hey Jim, I think I prefer the natural light and mood you captured so well here, to that of a main flashed image. Not that the other would look bad, just different.

Best, and it is good to see yet another friendly name here,
