One of my favorite birds. This male was foraging in the dropped Screwbean Mesquite seed clusters. The flowers in the background are Desert Sunflowers (wild) and Fairy Duster (native, but planted in my yard).

F5, 600mm f/4, TC-14E, Gitzo, BH-1, Provia 100F

This is really beautiful, I love the colorful bird and the great colors in the background! How cool to have that in your own backyard!

Excellent shot, Alan. Love the BG and would like to see a bit more of it on the right side of the frame.

My favorite AZ ground bird! I love the flowers here too. I have a plan to photograph some babies next summer as a friend of mine just moved into a house in the Ahwatukee Foothills where a Quail family lives and breeds - should be fun but this years brood is already big!

Four pairs of quail bred in our back yard this year. I managed a few baby shots but they are really challenging. They run all over the place and DOF is a real problem unless you target individual chicks. Good luck, they are a lot of fun!

Head stands out beautifully. The screwbeans add an interesting texture to the ground.

Alan,

Sweet looking Quail! That's one I don't get to see around here, that's for sure. Excellent profile with the plume sticking out. Wonderful color in the background. Very nice!

Very nice. A bit oversharpened and I would crop a little of the OOF stuff at the bottom
