Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus)
Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach, FL, on 17 Apr 2002

For the next month or two I’ll be posting images that have never been displayed as well as favorites of mine that have appeared elsewhere. This is a variant of one of the latter. It was taken at the beginning of my journey into avian photography.

The Stilt posed for a few minutes before rejoining its mate. I like the peek we get at parts of the retracted leg and toe.

Thanks for looking. Comments, critiques, and reposts are welcome.

I don't hug stilts. I prefer more voluptuous birds.
I didn't say "all new images." I'm gonna post new and old for a month or two, and then all new. What's your game plan?

I love it, Sandy. The pose is great and seeing the foot puts it over the top for me! :)

Sandy, what exactly is a more voluptuous bird? :)

My favorite part here is the apparently severe off-centered perspective of the bird. Keeps me wondering how he can still be upright. Also love the hint of the foot and the other leg.

Rich, if I could hug one bird, it would be the Great White Heron at Blind Pass. That bird turns me on. I tried to kiss it once but got frightened at the enormous bill. Gotta repost that effort.

Simple and very effective shot. The exposure and DOF are spot on. I like the fact that you can see the foot in the water.

Sandy, This is a warm and beautiful image. Not as easy bird to capture either. Simply super!! Old or new won't matter to me one iota. :D

Very nice, Sandy! The one-legged pose makes it unusual. Thanks for sharing.
