Here is the other duck image, taken a few seconds later, same equipment.

Interesting bird. Normally everyone is talking about getting low, but htis might be a case where getting up higher so you can see into the top of the stump more would help.

The stump was about 15-20 feet high, on a very steep pile of rocks, on the shores of Moraine Lake. There really was no way of getting to a place where you could look down on the ducks, not to mention the fact that they were not on it for very long.

Judy, much better image, no distracting OOF, FG blur, Still a tad underexposed but not too bad, lovely bird and this could have also worked well as a horizontal shot!!, Congrats!!

Welcome! :) Nice female Common Goldeneye. It's a very interesting shot and I think the shooting angle is OK but potentially adjusting it some might have made it possible to get a more uniform background.

Judy, an appealing image. I agree with Alex that this is much better than the first. A bit more room on our left would be nice.

Hi, Judy! Welcome to NatureScapes.Net!

I like the image of the bird in the tree, it is a more unusual setting. Love the perked up head, too!

I am from VT and just moved away this past January! Did you take this image in VT? You may want to keep an eye on the Northeast Chapter forum, as Greg and I will be coming up to photograph fall foliage and snow geese at Addison in October, and we will try to get some people together if anyone is interested.

Hi Heather,

Thanks (to everybody) for the welcome.
The image was taken in the Canadian Rockies, at Moraine Lake. I don't think that we have goldeneyes in VT, at least I have never seen one.
I would definitely be interested in getting together with you and others to photograph foliage and the snow geese. Where is this Northeast Chapter Forum, so I can keep an eye on it?

Don't mind the viewing angle. I'm with the others on the remaining suggestions. And I too like this more than the 1st.
