This was taken a Wako in May. Chas and Greg were showing me how to take flight shots and this is the best that I came away with. I really liked the position of the wings in this shot. Least tern hold this pose for 1-2 seconds before diving after fish. I was very lucky :)
EOS 1Ds, AF with all sensors on, 1/1250sec, f/4, ISO 200, at +1EV, ff with BB at 0EV, 500mm f/4 lens with IS on, hand held. In PS, levels USM and cropped.

Nice flight shot. The one think I would pick about it, is the strong flash shadow on the far wing. I know how difficult flight shots are, so don't be discouraged.

Wil, I see them all the time in this position at Wako, but I've not been able to get one this good. Not that I haven't tried. After seeing your shot and Chas's shot for the first time, I went out and attempted to duplicate it. Unfortunately my 1D was being repaired so I only had the 10D. Sadly, neither I nor the camera was up to it.

I love the image and do not have a single nit.

Looks like you learned your lesson well! About the only thing that would improve this is a slight head turn to provide a catchlight in the eye. Very nice.

I remember this one! I liked it the first time I saw it, and that hasn't changed a bit! :) Trying to get these guys in flight was definitely a way to burn up some film/heat up some flash cards, and after it all I didn't get anything I liked, anyway. Nothing like this for sure! But at least my arms got a workout...

Alan,
It is hard to see in this small file, but there is a catch light in the eye. I have printed this on 13x19 paper and it is terrific. In fact I just sold a print of it today :)

Heather,
I am certain that my shoulder will never be the same

Very well captured. Excellent sharpness - it's truly hovering.

Wil,

Wish you had a blue sky, but even without it, this is a great capture. It's just a fraction of a second that they hover like this.
