This Osprey was shot earlier this year at Cape May. I stopped right along the highway and shot her right next to the car.

Basically a nice shot, Jack. I'd like to see the bird a bit more to our right and more room at the bottom. Whites are hot. The latter could have been avoided or mitigated by about 2/3 less EV combined with fill flash. The BG is great.

Really nice green BG. I don't remember seeing an Osprey nest that appeared to be this low. I would have preferred the bird a little further to the right in the image.

Very good suggestions have been made. However, it's still a nice image. A great effort to spot them and shoot.

I remember your osprey shots! I also remember how envious I was that you got such great images leaving that windy-rainy weekend! This is great, I especially like the green background and that gorgeous yellow eye.

Nice perspective for a nest shot. Bg and pose are great.

Yes, the open beak adds nicely to the image. Good stuff :).

Hi Jack---I like the position of the bird and the non-distracting BG in this composition. Would sharpen the eye and consider a slight crop off the right to give a more vertical dimension.

This is a very fortunate moment, as osprey's typically are not especially cooperative. This one is well captured. The background works too to go nicely with the subject.

There are often two ways to view that...one is to go with the automatic setting and work with light and the other is manual which allows you more ability to get the ideal F stop.

There have been more ospreys by the way around Egg Harbor. Dawn and dusk are best

I appreciate the e-mail...Harborside Way and Dock Street are two spots to try and you can also try Aberthaw Street across from Mack's Marina. Usually Steve does not have issues with you going on the docks but I would avoid weekends if possible.

And sometimes you won't even need the TC...if you are patient and get to the best spots, you can use a 400 or 500 and get in close enough Sometimes you will see the chicks too.

Of course the best is when sand eels or spearing are cascading out of the water and the osprey dive in after them. A fast shutter speed and a little luck and you can capture nature's majesty
