My first image post here. This is from a local Mass Audubon sanctuary. It's close enough that I can go often. I know it's not a rare or exciting bird, but they're what I see around. I'm going on a week vacation to Cape Cod next week. Hopefully I'll come back with some good images.

Thanks for any comments!

Tom, you've done nicely on this, and I'm sure your posts will get better and better. I'd like to see some space cropped from the bottom, and possibly a little from the right side. The bird is small in the frame to see details, but I believe a magenta cast is present.

Keep at it, Tom. This site is and will be a treasure-house for nature photographers like you and like me.

Tom, Very nice! I like the surrounding habitat included, and the look of anticipation on the GBH.

By NOW Sandy has dissected the image, I can only add that a touch of fill-flash could have helped as well, Still very nice!!! 8)

I can't really add much to the other comments, other than that I like that the bird is coming towards us. I have always liked those leaves on the water in images. :)

Suggestions posed so far will help this fine image. I too like the lilies above the water look.

Thanks for all of the comments. I'm still not set up for telephoto fill flash. There always seems to be more to learn (and to buy).
