This was taken at Smyrna Dunes Park, FL late on a totally overcast day. I was busy photographing several Snowies feeding along the shoreline when the sun came through a small opening in the clouds, throwing what I feel was a beautiful rim light on the bird. In this case there truly was a silver lining.

Ron, I like this image very much. A kiss of fill flash might have made it even better.

Very nice Ron. I love the detail that the backlighting allows you to capture along with that rim light. I agree with Sandy about a kiss of fill. But, keep showing locals us how photograph our Florida birds.

Congrats!!!

Nice clean image - just a tiny touch of flash might liven it up some.

I'll go against the grain and say I like the backlighting as is. But then, I like the more dramatic lighting. This is a wonderful image!!

This is REALLY jumping off the frame! It's great that you caught it mid-step.

Ron, I like how you caught the bird in mid-stride, and the back lighting.
However, as presented the image appears very flat and lacking. I am sure when viewed the bird did not look grayish, but white. In maintaining detail in the highlight (well done) you have underexposed the shadow side. Your highlight and shadow levels adjustment are right on, but you can futher enhance the images viual impact with further adjustment.

Try this and see what you think; move the midtone slider to the left and the shadow to the right, and increase the contrast slightly.

I look forward to viewing more of your images.

Best,

Chas
