Wood Stork (Mycteria americana)
John Prince Park, Lake Worth, FL, on 30 Oct 2002

My first post on NSN was entitled, “Stork in Wedding Dress.” I recently pruned my image folder and was happy to uncover several RAW files that were never processed and which I like. This is one of these images.

Over my two plus years of avian photography, this stork has become a dear friend of mine. Whenever we meet at John Prince Park, my pal poses until I’m finished shooting. I wish I had more friends like this (take note, Alex).

Thanks for looking. Critiques, comments, and reposts are welcome.

Sandy,

We all need friends like that -- Excellent, beautiful rendering of a subject not usually considered beautiful.

Magnificent bird. Your whites are perfect and bright. I do like the composition, it certianly makes the stork look like a shy bride.

Very nice! Nice composition with a good head turn and perfect exposure. My only question is why on earth would you want Alex to pose for you until you were finished????

Dear Sandy, you see the inner beauty in anything (even Alex) and because of that it shines through in your images.

I am sure she loves having you around! its nice to be made to feel beautiful by a discerning gentleman.

I well remember the first 'bride' and she does not disappoint a second time around. Wonderful shot, perfect composition and techs as always. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Great job on the composition and exposure Sandy! I'm also glad my bride had a nicer looking neck.

Sandy,

It's probably all the time I've spent with the Pelicans out here but I find this Stork to be quite attractive. :) Of course your artistry helps a bit in that regard

He has the look of a trustworthy friend. Reminds me of my dearly departed pet rock (I already mentioned him to you once). I must admit though that your stork has a much nicer eye.

This is a very nice image of your friend. I guess after hanging out with Alex you need some better friends. :D

I like the way you maintained detail in the whites and dark areas. The BG & composition are up to your usual standards.

She's very, er, ah, beautiful!

In all seriousness, this is a most excellent capture. Technically perfect. I had no idea Stork neck skin was so rough!

Sandy, this is wonderful, with excellent detail throughout.

But, everyone knows you cannot take a decent image in direct sunlight

Best my friend, and hope to see you next month,

Chas
