American Kestrel in flight

My favorite bird is this little guy and I am constantly striving to get as many images as possible. This bird was intent on catching a mouse along a pole line going back and forth and this was the best I could do in a ten minute period this morning.

Canon 1D, 500F4IS, 2xII, car window mount, ISO 400, 1/1250 sec, f8

These birds are my favorite too. I wish he was turned a little more towards the camera but I would take this image in a heartbeat. These guys must be hard to track with the 2X on the 500?

Nice wing display and position. It looks like focus was achieved on the wing and not the head though.

Nice detail and I like the wings up, head down body position. I'm seeing a little bit more noise than usual than in previous posts. Is this cropped significantly?

No significant crop, just not as sharp focus due to the 2x I think.
