Canon D60
600F4 IS, 1.4x TC, 25 mm ext tube
Evaluative metering--probably -1/3 or -2/3

Ft. DeSoto County Park
St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

When I saw the theme I went looking for this older shot of mine. This was taken within a month of getting the D60--I was so happy when I saw this image back when I took it. My only wish would be to get the head of the fish. I have some with the head of the fish--but they lack DOF.

I hope you like it.

Wow I really like this! Seeing the fishes head and a bit more room in the front of the bird would make it even better. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome shot! Amazingly sharp and great exposure. I might crop a hair from the right.

Nice clean photo Rocky.

I do wish for a little more room in front of the bird.

I really like this, Rocky. The detail and exposure couldn't be better. I share the same feelings about the framing as the others but...wow this is nice as is!!

Oh wow.....is this good. You don't just have a closeup....you have a closeup with a fish. If you really wanted, you could add space in front...it would be easy with the BG that you have. Excellent shot!!!

Very nice close up. I agree that a little more room in front would have been nice.

I like it as is. Very nice image. There appears to be a dust spot just to the left and above the birds head. You might want to clone it out.

This is a great skimmer head shot on its own. The fish puts it over the top. Very nice! Looks like he could make quick sushi out of it with that bill.

There are some good compositional suggestions already. And while it's nice to see the fish's eye too, I certainly don't mind seeing it. To me the blue-silver fish really glows in this image and stands out in the diffused lighting. It's a cool shot!

Very nice portrait. They are such strange looking birds, and to me this photo tells their story.

Very nice! The only suggestion would be to move the head to the right and up a hair in the frame. Excellent seperation of the blacks and the eye.

Great shot Rocky. I agree with E.J's suggestion. Other than that, this is an excellent shot that I would certainly be proud of.

Well, sure is an excellent headshot, Rocky!
Would go with the framing suggestion given by EJ ...
How can you people manage get so close to this bird? This must be somewhere within 60ft or so ...

A fine shot, Rocky. I, too, would like a bit more room in front. Although the bill and fish look sharp, to my eyes, poor as they may be, the head appears slightly soft.
