Here is the repost:
Image
I just came back from Presqui'le provincial park in Brighton, ON. People say that it is one of the best places for shorbirds in Ontario. This image (one of many) was taken on Saturday early in the morning, laying in cold and wet mud (brrrrr).

EOS 10D, EF 400/5.6L, 540 EX, groundpod

Comments and critique are welcome (esp. on colors, saturation, etc. since I have problems to find an accurate monitor (does it exist?)).

Very nice shot with a good low angle and the birds body position is outstanding. I would wish for about 1/3 stop less exposure to give a little more detail to the whites.

Fine image, Fero. Ditto EJ on the 1/3 less EV.

Thanks for the critique, I think you are right, the whites are little bit hot. This monitr calibration is not easy to do. Fortunately I shoot RAW, so hopefully I can recover some details from whites.

Sandy congrats to your photo of the week, it is beautiful.

Fero,

This beautiful photo looks to be of a juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper to me.

Colors look good to me, the whites are a touch hot which has already been noted. I personally wouldn't mind a slightly tighter crop that takes off a little of that out of focus foreground, myself.

I hear you about the monitor, I've been through four in a year...

I thought about semipalmated too - since it doesn't have very yellow-green legs, but neither black? Help please!

Mike is right Fero............your bird is a semi. Blackish legs and bill shape are the two most obvious features for semi.

Fero,
The second one is definitely better on my screen.
All of you mud crawlers need to condider purchasing a ballistic nylon wind-surfers dry suit. It will keep you warm and dry up to your neck and is very pliable.
One of these would greatly extend your stay time while laying in the mud.

I like the second (reposted) one. Nice and sharp. Exposure looks fine from here.
