I made another trip to Conneaut this weekend. There had been 18 species reported on Thursday. I was so hoping to see an Avocet but a Peregrine falcon had terrorized the shorebirds and very few species made an appearance during the weekend.

On Saturday evening I noticed a Black-crowned Night-Heron on the rock wall so I decided to stay with him for awhile. I was rewarded with a few good shots....this one being my favorite.

Great shot and I know how you feel, a Peregrine did the same thing to me Saturday night while shooting a Red knot in a flock of Pectoral Sandpipers. Composition and exposure are both right on, not to mention the wonderful BG!

Great light and shooting to you all!

Title really fits the pose here! Good detail throughout - and a cooperative little BCNH.

Beautiful juvenile, Lana. I like the wing action. Perhaps a hair lighter, perhaps not.

Great composition and good catch of the birds pose. I agree with Sandy that a little lighter in tone might make it even better.

Your title made me laugh when I saw the picture he does have that flasher look to him. A nice shot. It is a bit too dark.

As to the darkness....I should have left well enough alone. Since posting here on NSN, I've noticed a huge difference in what the jpg looks like and what the actually image posted looks like. What I post is quite a bit lighter. I had what I thought was just about right and then early this morning decided to darken. It's just been hard "guessing" how it will come it. I will repost a lighter version when I get home from school...right now I don't have the time, image, or ID number.

Thanks for your comments.....they are helpful.

OK....here is the original version that I was going to post. Let me know if you think this one is better. Perhaps 4am is too early in the morning to make such decisions as which version is better.

Thanks

Yep, I agree with Dennis. Something about this shot really works for me... I love the blue BG. I think he looks like Dracula with those wings looking like a cape. Cool shot!

Great shot Lana. It really pays to work a subject like this. I can see dracula but my first impression was a street vendor and I could see watches hanging inside the wing.

This is such a fun shot Lana. I like everything about it and especially like the reposted version. That sure is some intensely blue water. :)
