Canada Goose
Addison, Vermont

I have had to review my image files pretty thoroughly to get my new website online and this was one I found that I thought fit the motif pretty well.

Right at sunset when it seemed like nothing else was around to photograph, a lone Canada Goose landed in the water reflecting fall colors. Technically there are a few things wrong with this photo, but I like the feeling it conveys to me. I would love to hear what people evaluating it objectively think.

I did reduce some of the evening haze with a levels adjustment. I take some fog / haze / snowfall images and tend to leave the low contrast in the image for mood, but it seems to detract from the photo for some viewers. I would be curious to hear if I have gone too far reducing the haze or not far enough.

Taken at one of my favorite places in Vermont. :D

Digital capture with Canon 1D
Canon 500mm f/4 – manually focused
Evaluative metering +.7 for 1/50 at f/6.3
ISO 250
Tripod with Wimberley Sidekick

Sweet and very relaxing image Heather, without seeing the original its hard to say whether you have reduced the haze too much or not. My first reaction on reading your notes, was that maybe a bit more haze would contribute favourably to the mood of the image. 8) :)

Fits the motif perfectly and a nic image and composition but a couple of nits: the background is somewhere between being sharp and being hazy and doesn't really land in either in my eyes which is distracting. If it was more of just a colour blur that would be good or if it was sharp that would be good but as it is I personally find it distracting.

I really like the way the tree trunks back in the wood catch just enough of the right light and bring life to what would otherwise be a dead part of the image.

I particularly like the fact that the background is a little out of focus - it makes the Canada Goose the focal point despite being so small in the frame.

A lovely, pastel tone poem, Heather. I love the composition, though I must pretend that your copyright is not there. If the upper 1/2 to 2/3 of the image were even foggier, that might also work.

It looks like the haze gradually increases from bottom to top. I think a little more haze would better fit the overall mood. This is great for the Motif Theme. :)

Heather, this is sweet. I'm also seeing a pano vertical crop by taking the left half off, crazy I know. I love the mood of this shot.

A beautiful serene and moody shot but the BG trees bother me some maybe some G Blur would improve? Also I personally would take out the long silver horizontal ripple plus the one about an inch up on the left edge and the one straight up and slightly right above the goose.

Heather,

This is perfect for the motif. The fall colors are wonderful and I like where you placed the goose in the frame.

Wonderful pastels, almost looks like a painting, then one's eye lands on the goose. Well done!

I really like this one, Heather. The soft mists and soft background really make the one lone goose pop out and convey such a peaceful mood. I think that the blurring is just about right as it gives the viewer a feeling of the enviroment without over-powering the subject. I like it as is.

Heather,

I like the composition and the mood that it creates. It's a little disconcerting the that reflection is sharper than the real thing because of the haze. Maybe more haze would be better? i'm undecided.
