Common Merganser

I had my first day off in 13 days today and I decided I wanted a sure thing... so I headed down to the Bronx Zoo for a little fun. There is a large waterfowl pond there with tons of ducks, but I'm not sure if they're captive or not. Either way, they are all very healthy and in full breeding splendor. I was particularly happy to get shots of the common mergs, as they are a personal nemesis. This one was rearing up, thus giving it the look of being CCW rotated at first. I hope that you like it!

Canon 10D, 500IS and 1.4X, Manual f5.6 at 1/800, ISO100.

Matthew,

This is very nice. The whites are well exposed and I love the contrast between the gorgeous red bill and the green head. I especially like the fact you can see the little teeth along the bill. Very well done.

Very nice shot Matthew! This Merganser certainly looks much heavier in build than the ones over here! A real heavweight!! 8) 8) :)
