First time to this forum. I don't specialize in birds like many of you do so I am hesitant to post this but hey, I figure what the heck. I sold it so it can't be all bad.

Just spent some time at Bosque last November pointing my Sigma 300-800 skyward to see what I could do with a nice cloud pattern. The Wimberly Head sure helped. Canon 10D ISO 400 f5.6.

Thanks for looking.

Scott,

There's no reason to be hesitant with this one. This is great!! I love the wing positions and how they are parallel to the capture plane. The slightly tilted head showing the open bill puts it up yet another notch.

No wonder it has sold. Congratulations!!

For my taste, this has some key selling points- diagonals are always pleasing, nice placement with room in front of the bird, excellent exposure, pleasing background, great detail. And nice and close!

My only personal compositional nit is that I'm not real fond of square crops. Don't know why though.

Hey Scott, good to see you here :D .

Comp is very effective and color is very clean. A subtle use of fill would help with the dark feather detail.

Way to go!

Best,

Excellent image in all details. Square format adds to the impact of this image. It's really funny that the square format is out of the box for some people! Thanks for sharing.

Well done Scott. I would love to have this one in my portfolio. The diagonal makes for a very strong comp and the clouds add depth and interest to the image. thanks for posting on NSN.

Very nice overhead shot. I like the clouds too. :) The underside of the bird looks a little noisy. Was there much tonal adjustment there?

Greg didn't do much to it. Doesn't look noisy on my monitor but rather detailed.

Thanks for all the comments.

Scott---Very nice, graphic image! Like the crop and the clouds. Clouds were like that naturally?

Yes Juli natural. That is what attracted me to the shot. I saw the clouds forming and I knew the Geese were flying that direction so I just pointed my lens skyward and started following birds as they flew through that pattern. I probably made 100 images to get this one!

I like to find my backgrounds first and then my subjects.

Thanks for the comments.
