This praire falcon had been raised from birth and was to be released within two weeks of this shot. Shot near Zion this spring with the McDonalds. I've much closer shots, but I like the environment here.

Haven't posted recently because my home cable has been out for over two months and telephone connection has been spotty. But I was given a hard time ;) about not posting so let's see if the telephone connection holds long enough!

1Ds, 100-400 at 285, 1/160 at f19.9 (because I wanted as much detail in the distant mountains as possible - although with the 1Ds, dust becomes an issue.) Cropped about 5% on right and bottom to move bird a little further from center.

Reposts, comments, suggestions welcomed.

Rich

Rich,

Very cool shot. I like the comp a lot with the nice contrast between the red rock and the BG mountains. Nice over the shoulder look from the bird and I think the shadow adds even more depth to the picture. Thanks for posting. I cannot imagine anyone giving you a hard time...at least not more than once!!!

Here's a case where the shadow adds to the image. Very striking against the rich, red rock.

Rich,

I agree with the other comments, shadow is great and the over the shoulder look is perfect.

Rich, the mountains in the far background and the shadow really give this alot of 3D realism. Excellent going here and thanks for posting..

Gorgeous, Rich. The sharp bird and its sharp shadow, the red rocks, and the faraway mountains blend perfectly.

Glad you were able to get this through on dial up! :) This is lovely, I am in agreement with the previous comments - the combination red rocks with the contrasting background and the bird looking back make for a wonderful image.

I like the image. Great environment. I wish I could see slightly more of the bird.
