I wish I had a better background for this image but this is what I had to work with.
Taken early this morning from my vehicle. The Willet was feeding in the shallows and eventually passed by. I did just have enough time to check the histogram before he came into position as shown in the photo.

10D
600 f4
ISO 400
Exp. comp. -2/3 after checking histogram
550 flash @ -1 2/3

Pete,
Great pose and reflection. :D Too bad about the BG. It looks just a tad pale on my monitor. Perhaps a little more contrast and/or saturation would help.

A good capture and the BG is ok with me. Could possibly use a bit more pop.

Looks good to me, Pete.

The BG is what's there. I think the reflection makes the shot.

Not much you could do about the background, but the light looks great. Love the slight echos of the reflection. I'm another one wishing for just a little tweak in curves perhaps to darken the bird a bit. (My guess is that you got a little more light there than anticipated from direct lighting plus reflected light from the water and the low-angled sun.)

The background is not that bad...you sometimes have to take what you get. I little USM and boosting in contrast would help. I've noticed since posting here that I need to boost the contrast and/or saturation for what I post vs. what I see as a jpg on my monitor.

I do like the pose and you certainly had wonderful light. Very nice job!!

I agree with your wish for a better background, but just love the soft lighting and the superb reflection!

This reminds me a lot of my Twin Eagles post. Although you have more dirt in the image than I originally had in mine. You might consider making the entire background blue.
Even as it is, there is great detail in both the bird and the reflection. Very nice light too. Good work.
